I am happy to inform you of two academic internship opportunities with National Geographic Magazine’s Art Department for the Spring 2010.

The deadline to apply for either position is November 30th, 2009:

Graphic Artist Internship

National Geographic magazine is seeking a talented intern to assist with the production of art and information graphics in return for academic credit. The intern will work closely with graphics editors while gaining insight into the development and production of graphics for the magazine.

To apply for the Graphic Artist Internship, please fill out an application for Job ID 3973 at NationalGeographic.com/Jobs, and also submit the following via e-mail to NGMArtIntern@ngs.org:

1. Completed PDF application (see last page of attachment-PLEASE EMAIL ME @ torchalum@gmail.com TO RECEIVE THIS)

2. Resume and cover letter detailing your background, and why you are interested in visual journalism

3. Portfolio of six samples (in PDF or Tif format) reflecting a variety of work in art and information graphics

4. Subject line must read: “ATTN: Mariel Furlong; Art/Graphics Internship.”

Art Research & Reporting Internship

Working under the guidance of an experienced researcher, the intern will report and research concepts and content for artwork, information graphics, and maps as needed for NGM and ensure the accuracy of the resulting graphics.
