TORCH Tales from the Campus IX!

As TORCH Alumni we’d love to have you participate in our TORCH Tales from the Campus IX and represent your college/university!  Tales from the Campus is an amazing opportunity for students from TORCH and other students in the NYC area to get an insiders view of what college life is really like. Last year, over 40 MAIP’ers & TORCH Alumni representing more than 35 institutions participated, giving honest answers about the application, financial aid, and college life.

If you are available to join us or if you know any NYC high school students who are interested in attending email francis@thetorchprogram.org.

TORCH Participants Screen their Film Documentary 30 Feet Apart on Tuesday, May 31st at BBDO

30 Feet Apart is a documentary film that illuminates the disparities between two high schools, Lab and Humanities (currently known as B.R.E.C.), that are merely 30 feet part. The TORCH participants worked with mentors from BBDO to research the history of these schools and conduct interviews with students, teachers, alumni and businesses in the surrounding areas. This  documentary is one that hits home for many and creates awareness for others.

TORCH students are well on their way to creating the creative material for their film documentary, “30 Feet Apart”. Many of our current students and of course alumni come from B.R.E.C. high school and Lab high school, which are literally across the street from each other. Despite the short distance these two schools have vast disparities within their internal school communities.

Stay tuned for more updates on “30 Feet Apart”.
